Naturally I told her my side of the story. She said she had guessed as much. Accordingly, she had recommended to the board of examiners that my case be treated as if I had neither handed in an algebra paper at all nor even offered algebra as one of my matriculation subjects, and that each of my other mathematics papers, namely, arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry, be allowed respectively to stand on its own merit.
